Privacy Policy
Effective date: 9 June 2026 Last updated: 9 June 2026
Gospell ("Gospell", "we", "us") is operated by Agnieszka Smigielska, of Flat 16, 148 Richmond Park Road, Bournemouth BH8 8DF, United Kingdom. You can contact us at agakacper74@gmail.com.
This policy explains what personal data we collect when you use the Gospell mobile application (the "App"), how we use it, who we share it with, and the rights you have. We have tried to write it in plain English.
A note before anything else: Gospell is an app about faith and prayer. That means some of the information you give us — such as your Christian tradition and the content of your prayers — is deeply personal, and the law treats it as deserving extra protection. We treat it that way too.
1. Summary
- We collect the information you give us (your name, email, tradition, prayer content, reminder time) and limited technical information about how the App is used.
- We use it to run the App, personalise it to your tradition, send the reminders you ask for, and keep the community safe.
- We do not sell your personal data. We do not show advertising.
- Prayer requests and comments you post to the Prayer wall are visible to other Gospell users. You can post anonymously.
- You can delete your account at any time from within the App, which deletes the personal data associated with it.
- We rely on your explicit consent to process information revealing your religious beliefs. You can withdraw it at any time by deleting your account.
2. Information we collect
Account information. When you create an account we collect your email address, your chosen display name, and, if you sign in with Apple or Google, the identifiers those services provide to us.
Your tradition. During onboarding you choose a Christian tradition (for example Catholic, Orthodox, Baptist, or "Just Christian"). We use this to adapt the App's language, calendar, and features. This information reveals your religious beliefs and is "special category" personal data under UK data protection law. We only process it with your explicit consent, which we ask for during onboarding.
Prayer and faith content. This includes prayer requests you post to the Prayer wall, comments you write, the "I'm praying" responses you give, candle intentions, your daily prayer log and streak, Bible highlights, reading-plan progress, and the answers you give during onboarding about what brings you to the App. Like your tradition, this content can reveal your religious beliefs and is processed on the basis of your explicit consent.
Reminder settings. The daily prayer time you choose, and a device token that allows notifications to be delivered to your device.
Usage and technical information. Basic technical data such as device type, operating system version, app version, language, time zone, crash reports, and anonymised events about how the App is used (for example, which onboarding step was completed). We use this to fix problems and improve the App.
Location (only if you use the church finder). If you grant location permission, we use your device's location to show churches near you. We use it at the time of your search; we do not maintain a history of your movements. You can decline location permission and search by place name instead.
What we do not collect. We do not ask for, and you should not submit, information such as government identification numbers or payment card details (payments, when offered, are handled by Apple or Google — see section 6).
3. How we use your information
- To provide the App — operating your account, your prayer log, candles, plans, highlights, and the Prayer wall (performance of our contract with you).
- To personalise the App to your tradition — terminology, calendar, default Bible translation (your explicit consent).
- To send the daily reminder you set — one notification a day at your chosen time, which you can change or turn off at any time (your consent).
- To keep the community safe — reviewing content that is reported, enforcing our Terms, and preventing abuse (our legitimate interests in running a safe service).
- To improve the App — using aggregated, anonymised usage data to understand what works (our legitimate interests).
- To meet our legal obligations — for example responding to lawful requests from authorities where we are required to do so.
We do not use your personal data for advertising, and we do not sell it to anyone.
4. The Prayer wall and content you share
The Prayer wall is a community space. Prayer requests and comments you post there are visible to other Gospell users, along with your display name unless you choose to post anonymously. Please post only what you are comfortable sharing with the community, and be mindful when your request includes information about other people.
Candle intentions and personal prayer logs are private to your account and are not shown to other users.
5. Who we share information with
We share personal data only with service providers ("processors") who help us run the App, under contracts that require them to protect it:
- Supabase — our database and authentication provider. Gospell's data is hosted in the European Union (Stockholm, Sweden).
- Apple and Google — if you sign in with their services, and for delivering notifications and processing any purchases through their app stores.
- Google Maps Platform — to power church search and maps. Search queries (such as a place name or your approximate location at the time of a search) are processed by Google to return results.
- Expo — application build and update infrastructure.
- RevenueCat — subscription management: validating purchases with Apple and Google and tracking subscription status so we can unlock the App for you.
Where a provider processes data outside the UK or the European Economic Area, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
We may also disclose information if required by law, or in connection with a sale or reorganisation of our business (in which case this policy would continue to apply to your data).
6. Payments
Gospell requires a paid subscription. The payment is processed entirely by Apple's App Store or Google Play. We never see or store your payment card details. We receive confirmation of your subscription status so we can unlock the App for you. If your subscription ends, we keep your account and its data so everything is there if you return; you can delete your account and exercise all of your data rights at any time, whether or not you have an active subscription.
7. How long we keep your information
We keep your personal data while your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete the personal data associated with it — including your profile, tradition, prayer logs, candle intentions, highlights, and plan progress — within 30 days, except where we are legally required to keep something longer (for example, records of a safety report). Content you posted publicly that others have interacted with (such as a prayer request with comments) is either deleted or fully anonymised so it can no longer be connected to you.
Backups are retained on a rolling basis and deleted data leaves backup copies within 90 days.
8. Your rights
Under UK data protection law, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you;
- Correct inaccurate data;
- Delete your data (you can do this yourself in the App: Settings → Delete my account);
- Withdraw consent at any time, where we rely on consent — including your explicit consent to processing your tradition and prayer content. Because the App cannot meaningfully function without that information, withdrawing this consent is done by deleting your account;
- Object to processing based on our legitimate interests;
- Port your data to another service in a machine-readable format;
- Complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) — ico.org.uk — though we would welcome the chance to resolve any concern first at agakacper74@gmail.com.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at agakacper74@gmail.com. We will respond within one month.
9. Children
Gospell is not directed at children under 13, and you must be at least 13 to create an account. If you are under 18, please use Gospell with the knowledge of a parent or guardian. If we learn that we hold personal data of a child under 13, we will delete it. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us at agakacper74@gmail.com.
10. Security
We protect your data using measures including encryption in transit, access controls, row-level security on our database, and the principle of least access. No system is perfectly secure, but we take the sensitivity of faith data seriously and design accordingly.
11. Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we will tell you in the App before they take effect and update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the App after changes take effect means the updated policy applies.
